Eminem Discusses Effects Of His Drug Addiction With The New York Post

Multi-platinum rapper Eminem‘s recent bout with prescription pill addiction may have been worst than many knew about. In a recent interview with the New York Post, Em reveals that his dependence caused so much cerebral damage that the rapper had to learn how to write and rap again.

“I had to learn to write and rap again, and I had to do it sober and 100 percent clean. That didn’t feel good at first … I mean it in the literal sense. I actually had to learn how to say my lyrics again; how to phrase them, make them flow, how to use force so they sounded like I meant them. Rapping wasn’t like riding a bike.

It was [as much] physical as mental. I was relearning basic motor skills. I couldn’t control my hand shakes. I’d get in the [recording] booth and tried to rap, and none of it was clever, none was witty and I wasn’t saying it right.”

Hip-hop history was made as Jay-Z and Eminem co-headlined the Motor City’s Comerica Park on Thursday night (September 2), the first of two shows on consecutive nights.

While Jay’s high-grossing touring schedule helped him to top this year’s Forbes’ “Hip-Hop Cash King” list, Eminem took a much-needed sabbatical to deal with plenty of personal issues. Now beyond his darkest hour, Em had one of his brightest moments ever onstage. Not only did he gift his hometown with a seemingly endless string of hits, he pulled off some major surprises. After D12, 50 Cent and the G-Unit — acts that fans likely expected — came out for performances with Em, Slim Shady pulled off a shocker. Dr. Dre came out, first stunning the people then delighting them with smashes.

Other special guest appearanced included Jeezy, Drake and many more… Checkout Vid after the jump.

4 years ago today Detroit, MI and the Hip Hop community lost Deshaun Dupree Holton also known as Proof, member of D12 and multi platinum artists Eminem’s Hype Man.

On April 11, 2006, Proof was killed by a gunshot to the head at the CCC Club in Detroit, Michigan by club bouncer Mario Etheridge after Proof fatally shot U.S. Army veteran Keith Bender, Jr.

While playing a game Proof and Bender got into a heated argument. After a physical altercation, Etheridge fired his gun into the air to try and stop the situation, but Proof shot Bender in the head. Etheridge, who was Bender’s cousin, then shot Proof three times in the head and chest. Proof was killed instantly, and Bender died a week later.

Proof released a solo album featuring collaborations with Eminem, 50 Cent, Method Man, Nate Dogg, B-Real of Cypress Hill, T3 of Slum Village, Obie Trice, Royce Da 5’9″ and other members of D12 on his own Iron Fist Records label in conjunction with Alliance Entertainment’s IDN Distribution.
