MIAMI (AP) — A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that Miami’s LeBron James will be announced Saturday as the NBA’s MVP, the third time he’s won the award in the past four seasons.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the results have not been released. James is expected to be presented with the trophy Sunday by Commissioner David Stern before Miami hosts Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Indiana.
James will become the eighth player to win the award at least three times, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses Malone.
He’ll be the first to win as a member of the Heat. James’ previous MVP awards in 2009 and 2010 came when he played for Cleveland.

Wilt Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record in the National Basketball Association (NBA) by scoring 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169–147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It is widely considered one of the greatest records in basketball. Chamberlain set five other league records that game including most free throws made, a notable achievement for the poor free throw shooter. The teams broke the record for most combined points in a game (316). That season, Chamberlain averaged a record 50.4 points per game, and he had broken the NBA single-game scoring record (71) earlier in the season in December with 78 points. Read More

ORLANDO, Fla. — Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose signed a new deal with adidas Friday that should keep him in the company’s brand for the rest of his career.

“It’s a blessing, man,” Rose said before Saturday morning’s All-Star practice. “Definitely a blessing. They’ve been with me, they stuck with me from the beginning and I’m happy that I’m a part of them for the rest of my life.”

Comcast Sportsnet initially reported the story early Saturday morning, saying that according to a source, Rose’s new deal was for 14 years and $250 million. Rose has been with adidas since he entered the league and has become a major face of the company.

“It’s great, man,” Rose said. “We’ve been trying to get it out of the way for a long time. I just remember them bringing it up to me and I couldn’t really think about the amount. I’m just blessed and feel grateful right now.”

Rose has remained loyal to the company and he clearly appreciates the fact that adidas has been loyal to him.
