LL Cool J, who has been nominated for the second year in a row previously lost last year as an official inductee.

The inductees will be announced in December, and the 26th annual induction ceremony will be held on March 14 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan.

Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner just published an interview with Barack Obama in which he was asked the president about popular music:

What music have you been listening to lately? What have you discovered, what speaks to you these days?

My iPod now has about 2,000 songs, and it is a source of great pleasure to me. I am probably still more heavily weighted toward the music of my childhood than I am the new stuff. There’s still a lot of Stevie Wonder, a lot of Bob Dylan, a lot of Rolling Stones, a lot of R&B, a lot of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Those are the old standards.

A lot of classical music. I’m not a big opera buff in terms of going to opera, but there are days where Maria Callas is exactly what I need.

Thanks to Reggie [Love, the president’s personal aide], my rap palate has greatly improved. Jay-Z used to be sort of what predominated, but now I’ve got a little Nas and a little Lil Wayne and some other stuff, but I would not claim to be an expert. Malia and Sasha are now getting old enough to where they start hipping me to things. Music is still a great source of joy and occasional solace in the midst of what can be some difficult days.

Although black people account for only 12 percent of the U.S. population, an estimated 60 percent of all prisoners in the United States are black.  With that being said, GWOP staff has compiled a list of our favorite Hip Hop acts that are currently locked up in the system.

In the history of hip-hop, popular rappers such as Slick Rick, Tupac Shakur, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Remy Ma, Beanie Sigel,  Black Rob, Shyne, Mystikal, Gucci Mane, T.I.  and C-Murder have spent a few months to several years in prison. Snoop Dogg was acquitted of murder; Diddy faced jail time but he was acquitted on bribery and weapons charges in 2001 stemming from a club shooting. His protege, Shyne, wasn’t as lucky and was convicted in the same case and sentenced to 10 years.  GWOP Magazine staff have compiled a list of the best rappers behind bars.
