Banksy, ‘Game Changer’, 2020. Sold in 2021 for over $23,000,000, setting a new auction record for the artist.

In May of 2020, an unsuspecting children’s hospital in England received this Banksy painting along with the note, “Thanks for all you’re doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if it’s only black and white”

The work is a celebration of all the first responders helping with the COVID pandemic; the child has discarded his typical superhero figures to play with a uniformed, masked, and caped nurse.

The proceeds from the sale of this artwork went towards supporting the University Hospital Southampton staff and patients, as well as other healthcare organizations.

Bidding started at $100 and ended at $69,346,250. This was the first digital art piece to be auctioned off and third highest payment in history for a work produced by a living artist. Safe to say digital art and NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) are the future of Art, collecting and investing.
