SAN FRANCISCO — Apple’s new iPad will be thicker and heavier than the iPad 2 because it features a bigger, more powerful battery.
Even with a bigger battery, the battery life of the device stays the same: about 10 hours. That’s because Apple has quadrupled the screen resolution, which in turn requires more computing power.
Apple revealed the device Wednesday at an event in San Francisco. Read More

Alabama-based rock band One Like Son wanted to challenge themselves when they returned to the “studio” to record their third album after a 10-year music hiatus. So on Jan. 1, 2010, band frontman Stephen Poff vowed to spend the year recording a new set of songs solely with iPhone track apps.

“I feel this is one of our best sounding recordings,” Poff said. In the past, Poff recorded two albums the traditional way – in a studio using condenser microphones, hard disc systems, amps, cables, patchbays and other accessories.

According to Poff, recording tracks using only applications was much more difficult than he anticipated. His previous iPhone-recording experience only involved experimenting on basic four-track applications that allows users to record, then overlay four tracks of music to play together.

The 11-track album was finished right before the new year on Dec. 31, 2011. Read More

Grand Apple store

Apple’s largest retail store is under construction in Grand Central Terminal in New York City. It takes up an entire mezzanine level at one end of the grand hall. Currently, the construction site is boxed up and draped in black, they added a large digital sign with lettering that flips just like the signs showing the latest trains and tracks above the ticket booths.

The store was supposed to open in time for Black Friday, but now it looks like it won’t be ready until December 9. When it does open, it will be the largest Apple store in the world, with 23,000 square feet and 300 employees.

The Daily News reports:

Apple revealed it has a staggering $81.5 billion of GWOP in cash in the bank, according to reports.

That’s more  GWOP money than the United States government according to documents.

The tech giant disclosed parts of its 10K filing earlier this week, claiming it has 13.2 million square feet of building space, employs 60,400 full-time workers and made more than $37.5 billion in GWOP cash profits during the last fiscal year.

But Chief Executive Tim Cook said that money is not “burning a hole in his pocket” and that he wasn’t going to do “silly things” with it.

Cook, who took over for Steve Jobs in August, told investors in a call Wednesday he was in no hurry to decide what his company will do with the money.
