A painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat from the collection of Yoko Ono is heading to auction.
The work, titled “Cabra,” may sell for as much as $12 million at Sotheby’s contemporary art sale in New York on Nov. 16, the auction house said Thursday.

Basquiat, who died at the age of 27 in 1988, is breaking records in the art world. In May, one of his paintings fetched $110.5 million at Sotheby’s, the highest price for any American artist at auction. A 1982 Basquiat canvas depicting boxer Sugar Ray Robinson sold for about $24 million last year.
According to Forbes, Mayweather’s career earnings before fight with UFC champ Conor McGregor totaled approximately $700 million. Some insiders are estimating that Mayweather will earn over $300 million for his 10-round TKO of McGregor.
That would launch Mayweather over $1 billion for career earnings, a mark reached only by two other elite, iconic athletes: Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Each has earned about $1.5 billion over the course of their careers from sponsorships, winnings, salaries, and the like.

A 1982 painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat sold for $110.5 million at Sotheby’s New York on Thursday — establishing a new record high for any U.S. artist at auction.
Tokyo e-commerce king Yusaku Maezawa later confirmed that he had bought the untitled work, a turquoise-blue painting topped by colorful slashes and a menacing black skull. Maezawa, bidding anonymously via telephone, won the painting following a lively 10-minute bidding war with dealer Nicholas Maclean that pushed the wall-size painting well over its $60 million estimate.
