DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and his investment company said Monday they are investing a combined $300 million into the microblogging site Twitter.
The joint investment with Alwaleed’s Kingdom Holding Co. follows months of negotiations and represents a strategic stake in Twitter, according to the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-based investment firm.
Alwaleed, who has a long history of investing in media and technology, said the deal represents an interest in investing “in promising, high-growth businesses with a global impact.” Read More

PYONGYANG, North Korea — Kim Jong Il, North Korea’s mercurial and enigmatic leader, has died of fatigue. He was 69.

Kim’s death was announced Monday by state television from the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

Kim is believed to have suffered a stroke in 2008 but appeared relatively vigorous in photos and video from recent trips to China and Russia and in numerous trips around the country carefully documented by state media.

The leader, reputed to have had a taste for designer sunglasses, cigars, cognac and gourmet cuisine, was believed to have had diabetes and heart disease.  Kim Jong Il was the biggest consumer of Hennessy  spending $700,000 p/year on cognac.

Sources close to Facebook have revealed a sneak peak at the company’s finances.

The social network’s profits have doubled in one year, and are now likely to be a full billion dollars this year.

That figure is double the reported figure for last year.

The company reportedly made $714 million profit in the first three quarters of this year, on revenue of $2.5 billion.

It is expected to clear the billion mark in the last quarter.

Mark Zuckerberg reportedly owns 24 per cent of the shares in the company, according to the figures obtained by Gawker.

The Wall Street Journal recently valued the company at $100 billion – putting Zuckerberg’s personal stake at $24 billion.

According to The Daily Mail, an Italian fashion design house has created a gold-covered remake of  The Rolls Royce Ghost model costing more than $1 million.

The Fenice Milano ‘Diva’ has been spray painted in 24-carat gold and the company is so proud of it they have described the model as a ‘true.masterpiece.’

It is fitted with the same 6-litre twin-turbocharged engine of the Ghost, giving the saloon more than 560bhp and a top speed of 155mph.

The interior has biscuit leather and 24-carat gold throughout.

The standard Ghost costs $220,000 but the Diva is now for sale at $1.05million. Read More
