The NBA has officially announced the sale of the Sixers to a group headed by billionaire Joshua Harris. The new ownership group includes Philadelphia native Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
The NBA said its Board of Governors had “unanimously approved the sale” of the team. A news conference is scheduled for 11:30 Tuesday morning.
The new owners have named former Philadelphian Adam Aron CEO.
“My partners and I are thrilled to have become owners of the Sixers,” said Harris in the news release. “It’s an honor to be part of this storied franchise. We want to build on the team’s momentum and be world class and cutting edge in everything we do.”
The 46-year-old Harris, a Wharton grad, made his fortune as a leveraged buyout specialist. According to Forbes, he’s worth an estimated $1.5 Billion.
The deal is reportedly for $280 million.
WILL SMITH’s luxury, 53-foot-long, double-decker trailer that he’s renting for $9,000 a week while filming “Men in Black III” angered the residents of New York’s SoHo neighborhood so much that the filmmakers were told to move it to a private parking lot. The $2 million jumbo-sized trailer — it includes a full-service kitchen, lounge, a movie room with a 100-inch screen, marble floors, offices for his assistants, a large bedroom and a granite bathroom — was taking up too much space on the street.
Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith are partnering with Jay-Z to release movies.
No word on the name of the entity, but the tandem plan to bring Annie to the bring screen starring Will’s daughter, Willow. According to Hov:
“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow. This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative, and innovative.”
Overbrook Entertainment has generated more than $2.5 billion in revenue by producing some of Smith’s films like “Ali,” “Hitch,” “Pursuit of Happyness,” “I Am Legend” and “The Karate Kid.”
While in town filming Men in Black III, Will Smith is renting a 7,326-square-foot, fourth-floor condo in New York that had been listed for sale by Sotheby’s International at $19.5 million for nearly two years, according to the New York Post.
The five-bedroom, 6.5 bath at 25 Bond St. in NoHo sprawls across the entire fourth floor of the eight-floor building with only nine units, including a triplex and a duplex, each with a private rooftop pool, reported theNew York Times.
