Cam speaks on his past business relationship with hip hop mogul Jay-Z.
“I think he’s a good, great businessman,” Cam said referring to Jay. “But he’s a competitor. He doesn’t like people just as good or who may be better on the same level as him….” Read More
NEW YORK — On Thursday night, Jay-Z hosted a carnival at the Hudson River Park pier for his Shawn Carter Foundation. But it wasn’t all Ferris wheels and funnel cakes — unfortunately Momofuku doesn’t make those. The event was called Making Ordinary Extraordinary, and it sought to raise funds for college scholarships.
MTV News caught up with Mr. Carter at the event, where he said the evening was about having fun while raising money for a good cause. Jay said two of the worst things in life are a waste of talent and a person who applies him- or herself but is unable to advance due to financial hardship. He hoped this foundation would help ease such burdens and assist people in recognizing their potential.
“Just providing opportunity and seeing what people do with that opportunity. If you want to go further and you want to further your education, just giving someone that extra little push [so] that maybe you’ll turn out to be someone special,” Jay said. Read More
With a net worth of around $550 million, Diddy has been picked by Forbes as the front runner to become hip-hop’s first billionaire.
However, the Bad Boy CEO does have competition. Jay-Z ($450 million), Dr. Dre ($250 million), Birdman ($110 million) and 50 Cent ($100 million) are all in the running.
Birdman thinks he will beat Diddy to the Forbes 400 list.
“I think Young Money Cash Money would be the first billion-dollar brand in hip-hop,” said Birdman in an email message to Forbes. “We strong and growing every day as a brand and fast. Within the next few years we will be billionaires.”
(CNN) — Jay-Z’s sixth studio album, “The Blueprint,” hit record stores on the fateful morning of September 11, 2001.
Despite the horrible coincidence, the New York rapper’s album — featuring the hit track “Izzo (H.O.V.A)” – sold more than 420,000 copies in the first week.
That’s an impressive feat for any musician in a time of declining sales — let alone while Americans were still reeling from the worst terror attack on U.S. soil in modern history. The album went on to sell more than 2 million copies, earning a multi-platinum certification, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, which tracks music sales.
So why did “The Blueprint” do so well amid the chaos of 9/11?
Music experts say that music sales that day and week were at least partially driven by a group of youthful consumers, who were somehow and incredulously untroubled — or at least not paralyzed — by the events of 9/11.
“I remember waking up late that morning (around 9:11 am/est) to breaking news of airplanes crashing into the World Trade Center. My college classes were canceled this day due to the terrorists attacks, so I ran up to Best Buy and bought Jay-Z’s Blueprint CD as well as Fabolous’ 1st album Ghetto Fabolous on 9/11/01. True story.” –Beezy Tarantino (director of GWOP Magazine)

Kanye West and Jay-Z, rule the charts for the second week in a row with their latest album “Watch The Throne.”
The album moved 177,000 units to grab the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The two week sales total for the album now sits at 613,000.
Rounding out the top five are Adele “21” (No. 2), “Now 39” compilation (No. 3), Luke Bryan “Tailgates & Tanlines” (No. 4), and Jason Aldean “My Kinda Party” (No. 5).
Behind Gisele Bunchen and Tom Brady, Jay Z and Beyonce come in as the second highest-paid celebrity couple for this year’s Forbes top earning list, but number 1 musically with a combined total of $72 million.
From May 2010 to May 2011, Beyonce racked in $32 million mostly from endorsement deals from Dereon to L’Oreal, while Jigga Man’s earnings stem from his 2008 $150 million Live Nation deal, 40/40 chains and his partial ownership of the New Jersey Nets.
Mark Cuban, business mogul and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, once spent $110K at Club LIV in Miami. Last night, Jay-Z shattered that record by allegedly racking up a tab of $250K.
The gold Ace Of Spades bottles were flowing freely at the Watch The Throne release party, which reportedly cost hundreds of dollars and hours in line just to enter. Kanye was in Europe and couldn’t attend, but Hov made up for it by spending an absurd amount and even copping one of those massive $100k 15 liter bottles of Ace of Spade at one point.
DJ Clue, Stevie J and Don P supplied music for the event, and sources say that VIP treatment for the night was starting at $20K.
