GWOP Report: Top 10 Urban Websites
In today’s world, we no longer have to watch cable television stations like MTV or BET in order to catch up on the latest trends, news and music videos. Laptops, tablets and mobile devices such as Androids and iPhones allow us to explore the blogosphere for all the information we need. Majority of hip hop artists are being discovered daily on popular sites like youtube and twitter which are all intertwined with the urban blog world.

Founded in 2008, this site gives an inside look into hip hop. Owner Karen Civil goal is to introduce the world to up and coming artist in the music industry. Rising celebs like Drake, Nicki Minaj and J. Cole were first featured on KarenCivil.com. This site posts a lot of interviews, videos and covers exclusive events.
NecoleBitchie is an urban celebrity gossip site. Unlike most sites, she actually shows her face. Articles are written by Necole and other writers. She does interviews at various events and posts videos to watch. She interacts with readers and provides advice.
8. HipHopDX.com
This site is a one stop shop for hip hop news, album reviews, mixtapes music videos, etc. They have a staff of writers and editors. Site was founded in 1999 and is owned by Cheri Media Group.
7. Nahright.com
Founded in 2005 by Yonkers NY native, Ahsmi Rawlins better known as “Eskay”, NahRight posts a lot of hip hop music, videos, album reviews and news. Nahright.com generates about 600,00 unique visitors per month and is one of the best hip hop websites.
6. DatPiff.com

This is the #1 site for downloading FREE mixtapes. All you have to do is sign up for an account to download new mixtapes from artists such as Lil Wayne, Drake, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane and Jeezy.
This urban news site was founded in 1998. It attracts over 37 million page views per month. In 2007, PC Magazine listed them as one of the top 100 undiscovered websites, and they have won a rising star award from Black Enterprise. Similar to worldstarhiphop, this site is based on videos. The owner of the site is rapper/entrepreneur Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Not only do they post videos, but they also display interviews, news articles and music from a G-Unit perspective. You can add your own videos to the site by signing up for an account.
This urban site is famous for posting videos. You can submit videos and pay a $600 – $1500 fee to have your video posted on the site or sometimes they just film videos themselves and post it. Their videos cover various topics such as sports, rap music, fights, coonery and other user submitted content.
2. Bossip.com
Bossip is an urban celebrity site similar to the #1 site on this list. They post a lot of gossip, hence the name Bossip… get it Black Gossip. You can write them and ask them relationship questions and they will post it. They also do a lot interviews and cover different events such as the BET and MTV Award shows.
MediaTakeout.com is the #1 urban website on the internet, and they get tons of traffic. The problem with this site is that they make up a lot of their stories.
