Pot Hole: 17 tons of Weed discovered near US-Mexico border

source: Reuters

An estimated 17 tons of marijuana were seized after authorities discovered a cross-border secret tunnel that was used for drug smuggling.

The tunnel discovered Tuesday stretched about 400 yards, four feet high and three feet wide and it dropped about 20 feet on the U.S. side.

Complex: The entrance to the tunnel in Otay Mesa in southern California which has been described as one of the most sophisticated passages on the U.S-Mexico border
What’s fascinating is that the wrapped packages of dope were labeled with pictures of Captain America, Sprite and Bud Light. Drug smugglers marked the product so they know where it’s supposed to go.
Iconic labels: The packs of marijuana were covered in stickers of action figure Captain America, a Sprite can and a bottle of Bud Light, which were used as codes to identify its owners
Two men allegedly seen leaving the warehouse in a truck packed with about three tons of pot were pulled over Tuesday on a highway in suburban La Mesa and arrested. A California Highway Patrol officer was overwhelmed by the smell, according to authorities.

U.S. agents said the sophistication of this latest tunnel suggests that a major Mexican drug cartel was involved, but no link has been established.

Instead paying police to interdict cannabis and pay them overtime for photo-ops our government should legalize, regulate and tax cannabis and start making money of taxes instead of wasting tax money.

Agreed. Legalize it already. Gov’t just wants to overcrowd the jail system w/ non violent drug offenders. Prison is big business.

To big and to intrusive into our political system in America, how much more perverse will things become before it all ends I often wonder to myself.
