GWOP Report: Paramount buys ‘Like Crazy’ for $4 million
January 29, 2011Director Drake Doremus’ heartfelt romantic drama sold 16 hours after its premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
Sundance Film Festival: Paramount pictures, which had execs Adam Goodman and Matt Brodlie in Park City to see the film, paid $4 million for worldwide rights according to sources.
Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones and Jennifer Lawrence star in the mostly improvised romantic drama about two students who fall deeply in love only to be separated because of a visa violation (she’s from England). Their struggle to maintain a connection while embracing other relationships and then each other repeatedly sustain the drama of the film. Doremus and Ben York Jones wrote the script.
Like Crazy was produced by Jonathan Schwartz and Andrea Sperling of Super Crispy Entertainment. Executive producers are Audrey and Zygi Wilf.

GWOP News: Jay Z & Will Smith partner to form Film company

Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith are partnering with Jay-Z to release movies.
No word on the name of the entity, but the tandem plan to bring Annie to the bring screen starring Will’s daughter, Willow. According to Hov:
“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow. This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative, and innovative.”
Overbrook Entertainment has generated more than $2.5 billion in revenue by producing some of Smith’s films like “Ali,” “Hitch,” “Pursuit of Happyness,” “I Am Legend” and “The Karate Kid.”

GWOP Report: 50 Cent & Money Mayweather at Sundance Film Festival

Floyd Mayweather and 50 Cent’s Cheetah Vision Films — co-founded with partner Randall Emmett — will be collaborating together on a new action film “Tomorrow Today,” scheduled to begin shooting in Grand Rapids, Mich., in August. It’s part of Cheetah Vision’s $200 million deal with Lionsgate.
